Barrmaelia moravica?
Per Vetlesen, 09-01-2017 19:41
Hi,
This one was found more than a year ago on a 2.5 cm thick decorticated branch of Populus tremula. Today I saw this thread on http://ascofrance.com/search_forum/30414 which looks much like my fungus.
Stroma immersed in blackened wood,
Asci: 8-spored, but it looks like some are 4-sporered after aborting some.
Spores: (11.5) 13.9 - 17.5 (19.1) × (2.4) 2.7 - 3.3 (4.1) µm; Q = (3.8) 4.3 - 6.1 (7.1) ; N = 30; Me = 15.6 × 3 µm ; Qe = 5.2

I have read Rappaz's article on Anthostomella and related Xylariaceous fungi on hardwoods, and using the key presented there it comes out as B. moravica. This species is supposed to grow on Salix, but it is mentioned a similar collection from USA with a bit larger spores found on Populus. The spore size of mine seems to be in between the two.
Is it the correct genus or is it something else?
All the best,
Per

Re : Barrmaelia moravica?
Walter Jaklitsch would like to try to get it growing for sequencing, and I have sent him the material. Hopefully he is successful :-)

Re : Barrmaelia moravica?
It was an undescribed species, the name is Barrmaelia rappazii Jaklitsch, Friebes & Voglmayr
