Hairy Nectrialike on wood
Marja Pennanen, 13-10-2016 09:59
Hello forum,

these hairy balls are about 0,2 mm wide.
The spores are 9-12x3-3,5, the asci are about 50-60x7-9.
The hairs are up to 40x2.

xyznectria?

Re : Hairy Nectrialike on wood
Hi Marja,
your fungus resembles Lasionectria vulpina, are the aspores striate or smooth?
You should check changing of color in KOH or lactic acid.

Best regards,
Christian

Hi Christian,

thank you for your opinion.

I suppose, that the spores are smooth. KOh removed the droplets, but there was no very visible colour change.

you have to observe the ascospores in cotton blue to see the ornamentation

Re : Hairy Nectrialike on wood
Dear Christian,

I tried 3 times with my home made cotton blue, but can't still tell weather there were some ornamentation on the spores. They tend to float away... To my seeing, they are not striate.

Anyway, what I saw was, that some spores had 2-3 septas. Beside the fungus grows some anmorph, that has ellipsoid about 5x2, hyaline spores. Don't know, weather they have nothing to do with the Lasionectria specíes.

Do you have time to study this, if I send you a piece?

With respect: Marja
