Saccobolus minimus?
Chris Johnson, 11-03-2015 13:20
Greeting all

Found on Bos taurus. Apothecia no more than 300µm tall x 300µm across. Ectal excipulum textura globulosa-angularis.
Asci 64-82 x 16-19.5µm
Paraphyses filiform, curved at apex with much yellow pigment in the upper section
Spore clusters purple when mature with a gelatinous sheath, 26.4-30.8 x 8.9-11.3µm
Spores 11.6-12.1 x 5.1-5.9µm

The spores are a little smaller than those quoted by Doveri but concur closely with Enrique's here: http://www.asturnatura.com/fotografia/setas-hongos/saccobolus-minimus-velen-2/14936.html

The only other possibility that I can see is Saccobolus truncatus but that species doesn't have the ectal excipulum textura angularis.

Your thought please.
Regards, Chris

Re : Saccobolus minimus?
Another new species for the British list, it seems. Is there a possibility of a specimen for Kew, if you haven't already sent the Tubeufia? I bet you've always wanted to send poo through the post...

All good wishes
Paul

Re : Saccobolus minimus?
Hi Paul

I was planning on sending some to Kew once I worked out how to dry it without too much substrate (poo). I'll send the two species in the same package.

Regards, Chris
