Encoeliaceae ? 200614 145
Miguel Ángel Ribes, 27-02-2015 01:38
Miguel Ãngel RibesThis small, 800 µm, with brown hymenium and more clear hairs was growing in a wood inside a "fayal-brezal" forest in Tenerife (Canary Islands) and I don't find a genus for it.

Asci 8-spores, croziers +, IKI -, (27.5) 29.8 - 41.8 (42.7) x (4.6) 5.3 - 6.4 (7.1) µm; N = 31; Me = 35.0 x 5.9 µm.
Spores elyposoidal-ovoid with 2 (sometimes 3) small LB, (4.5) 4.7 - 5.3 (5.7) x (2.0) 2.2 - 2.5 (2.6) µm; Q = (1.7) 2.0 - 2.3 (2.5); N = 57; Me = 5.0 x 2.4 µm ; Qe = 2.1
Paraphysis cylindrical, septate, not enlargued at apex.
Ectal excipullum dark brown with textura angularis.
Medullar excipullum with textura cylindrical, parallel hyphae to the hymenium.
Hairs brown, pointed, tapared towards the apex, without septum (or only 1).

Thank you.

Dear Miguel,
I am missing the subiculum, further it reminds me strong to Eriopezia caesia.
Greetings,
Stip

Yes, macro is similar, but at least subiculum, not gregarious growing, hairs and IKI reaction is different.

Thank you Stip.

Spores remind me of a Hyphodiscus, but hairs and exciple much more of an Unguiculariopsis. No further idea. You could look whether KOH extrudes any pigment into the medium, though Unguiculariopsis ususally doesn't.

Hi again

None pygment disolved by KOH in ectal excipulum nor hairs, perhaps only a little in the black substance that cover the apex hairs in the dried material.

Attached pictures before (H2O) and after (KOH).

Thank you.
