Octospora species
Ralph Vandiest, 04-01-2014 22:22
Ralph VandiestHello,

I found this species between mosses that where growing on concrete. Size 2mm.  I first thought of  Octospora musci-muralis but I only found spores with 1 large drop and several smaller ones. Spores measure 21/23x9/10µm. Q>2. Paraphyses with swollen apex up to 8µm. J-

Can anybody tell me which species this is...

PS I don't know much about mosses so I don't know the name of the host

Thx

Ralph

Re : Octospora species
Hi Ralph,
O. leucoloma would be my guess.
See red arrows pointing on Bryum argenteum (apart from this O. leucoloma fools around with other Bryums too).
Cheers,
Marcel

Hello MArcel,

Problem is that  my Q>2 (21/23x9/10µm) and for O Leucoloma Q<2 ...

Who told you this, Ralph?

Re : Octospora species
hello Ralph,

it looks like O. gemmicola. This species has somewhat narrower spores than O. leucoloma (19-23 x 8.5-10.5  vs. 20-24 x 10-12 µm. Host probably is Bryum dichotomum (rhizoid gemmae should be absent).

with best wishes

Jan
