Xylaria putamina description
Godorova Olga, 03-05-2013 04:18
Godorova OlgaHello, dear friends. We've found two interesting species of Xylaria here in Israel, both grow under olive trees. One species grows on fallen leaves and the other one - on fallen fruits. After searching in the web, I assumed, these could be Xylaria sicula and Xylaria putamina. But I did not succeed to find any description or detailed information about Xylaria putamina species, in order to compare it to what we found. Maybe someone here knows, where I can find an additional information about this species.
Thank you
Olga

Hi Olga,
the only description I know is from Bertault 1984, please find it attached. I would be very happy to examine fresh material of X. putaminum and X. sicula, it would be great if you can send me some mature fertile stromata of these Mediterranean species.
Cheers,
Jacques

Re : Xylaria putamina description
Hi, Jacques. Thank you very much for the description! The examples, that we found, were sent to the University of Haifa in Israel. Now they are pending there for return of the local specialist in ascomycetes. She's been in maternity leave for some time.
But I will surely ask the person, who was the first to find and to show me these ascomycetes in his neighborhood olive plantation, to collect some more examples, when he sees them again. So that I could send them to you.
Olga.
