Didymopsis helvellae on Helvella?
François Bartholomeeusen, 25-03-2026 20:53
Dear forum members,

On 23 March 2026, I found several fruiting bodies of the genus Helvella (Helvella solitaria, H. leucomelaena). Upon microscopic examination of a small remaining fruiting body, which I believed to be immature, I found only paraphyses and no asci or spores.
Notable were structures reminiscent of conidia (Me = 14.1 × 4.5 µm ; Qe = 3.2) and conidiophores. Using Microfungi on Miscellaneous Substrates by Ellis & Ellis, I have identified the specimen as Didymopsis helvellae.
I assume the host is Helvella lacunosa (based solely on morphological features) . Perhaps something to look out for, though a great deal of luck will be needed!

Best regards,
François
