Strange asco on Quercus acorn
Francois Guay, 27-10-2025 00:34
Francois GuayI found this strange species in Québec,Canada, growing on Quercus acorn. Does anyone know what it could be?
-Spores globose, 3.4–3.9 µm, appearing finely verrucose.

-Asci 8-spored, without croziers, IKI-.

-Stipe with large incrusted hairs.

Here’s the iNat link with photos and microscopy:

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks, Viktorie. Everything fits with Roeslerina hispida (Pithyella hispida*l). I just found out it was also found in North Carolina and sequenced. I wonder if it would really fall into Roeslerina.

Here is the North Carolina collection and sequence: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/304736734
