Hello,

Found by Laurens van der Linde, Oct. 2025 on Phragmites.

Is this the anamorph Apiospora montagnei or is it Arthrinium phaeospermum?

Greetings, Riet

Re : anamorph and teleomorph Apiospora montagnei?
Dear Riet,
The conidial dimensions in your image do not match Apiospora arundinis. At first, I considered Apiospora phragmitis, but the ascospores in your material are clearly larger.

Both the conidial (8–10 × 5–6 µm) and ascospore (28–32 × 6–7 µm) measurements, as well as their morphology, fit very well with Apiospora iberica.

However, the dimensions of the different Apiospora species often overlap, which makes a purely morphological identification rather difficult and sometimes ambiguous.

Best regards,
Ángel
