White Lasiobelonium?
Francois Guay, 08-05-2025 02:22
Francois GuayI found this white, hairy ascomycete on the bark of a living Populus tree. I think it might be a Lasiobelonium sp.? Does anyone know what it could be?

-Asci 8 spored, IKI+
- Spores 25-26,57 x 3,05 - 3,51 µm

Here is the iNat link for photos: https://www.inaturalist.ca/observations/271280364

Thank you !

Re : White Lasiobelonium?
This looks much like Lasiobelonium corticale which has been reported with spores 11-25 x 2-4 µm, except for the pale colour. Maybe you have a species with a little longer spores, but my docu HB 5633b shows spores 20-30.5 x 3-3.8 µm and apos pale to light ochraceous-brownish. So this could all be the same. And I see Enrique (ERD 6276) measured 18.6-29.3 x 3.8-4.7 µm.

I wonder why this species was rarely connected in recent times, and no sequence appears to exist.

Re : White Lasiobelonium?
Interesting, this could all be the same, yes. I have both the brownish specimens from another collection and this white/pale collection. I will send both for sequencing so we can compare the sequences. Thank you, Zotto!
