Orange disc, Melastiza flavorubens
Margot en Geert Vullings, 03-10-2024 20:56
These orange discs were found in September on moist soil in the verge along a forest path.
Diameter 2-6mm sessile, the inside orange, outside with brown fibers, the edges with very small whitish hairs.

Asci 200 x 9.5 µm, IKI negative

Spores elliptical with thick warts and an irregular network.
Measured in water Me = 16.9 × 8.3 µm; Qe = 2

Paraphyses narrow cylindrical with orange content, slightly thickened towards the top.

With the key of Häffner we arrive at Melastiza flavorubens, can this be correct?

Thanks in advance for your help

Re : Orange disc, Melastiza flavorubens?
Hi Margot,

The incomplete spore network of your collection would lead me to call it M. flavorubens.

Re : Orange disc, Melastiza flavorubens?
Thank you very much Michel for the confirmation.
That would be great, Melastiza flavorubens has not been seen in the Netherlands since 1999.
Kind regards,

There is also a very complete key to Melastiza available on ascomycete.org, section Keys.
