Small white dics on birch
Margot en Geert Vullings, 10-01-2024 17:28
On decayed birch on the ground we saw these very small white discs, no stem and they appear to have no hairs.

Spores measured in water:
Me = 11.3 × 3.8 µm ; Qe = 3

Ascus measured in water:
Me = 61.9 × 10 µm ; Qe = 6.2
IKI+

Paraphyses septated, cylindrical, slightly thickened towards the apex, without VBs.

We were thinking towards Hyaloscypha and were suggested Hyaloscypha minuta (Parorbiliopsis) , a species without hairs, but with reaction IKI neg.
Does anyone have an idea about this?

Thanks in advance,
Margot&Geert

I would also suggest Hyaloscypha. Croziers seem to be absent. In my head I have no idea.

Re : Small white dics on birch
Thank you Hans-Otto, do you think it could be H. minuta?
We think we saw no croziers.

H. minuta is always inamyloid, and I don't think that such variation occurs within this species.

Bonjour Margot et Zotto,
I would also have thought of H. minuta for the macro aspects along with spores. But for the IKI reaction
Did you observe any marginal hair ? I can't see any on your pics.

Re : Small white dics on birch
Thank you Hans-Otto and Michel, it will stay with Hyaloscypha.
We didn't see any hairs.

Kind regards,
