Claussenomyces?

Dear Forum,

On the bark of Quercus, I found some small pale yellow apothecia with pruinose aspect.

Asci were inoperculate and measured 65-72x9µ. The spores were 3-septate and contained a lot of guttules( 22-23x4-4.5µ). Some paraphyses were branched. There was a blue coloration of the apical apparatus with IKI.No conidia were seen.

Could this be Claussenomyces or rather Pezicula?

Re : Claussenomyces?
Could you please figure the amyloid reaction? It excludes Claussenomyces.

Not the entire apical apparatus but a superficial blue line on the top of the ascus

Re : Claussenomyces?
So this is Pseudohelotium sordidulum (= P. vernale). I have it in Hyaloscyphaceae.

Spore width is 2.8-4 µm in this species, I feel your spore width data are too high, isn't it?

Re : Claussenomyces?

You are right Zotto, sporewidth was a bit overestimated. I again measured 15 spores and had a mean of 3.8µ.

It matches very well with your pictures in IVV.

Thank you very much
