on/under broken bark in loosening bark. Black with short- or long-beaked ostioles, smooth. Peridium strikingly red in water. Spores 2-celled, 13,6 x 5,1 µm, rather thick-walled, hyaline, apparently smooth. Asci 8-spored, apical appa. fairly prominent, refractive. Ascus base very long and thin.

Hi Thomas,

there is a key to these fungi in Reblova's paper, but I failed to find a genus matching well your fungus.

Mycologia, 105(2), 2013, pp. 462–475. DOI: 10.3852/12-199

Good luck!

Thanks, Jacques.

I guess it keys out in Ceratolenta but with 2-celled spores, so could be a new or non-combined species in this genus? Even the red peridial colour fits well.

there is a more recent paper in SIM expanding the number of genera in this group of fungi. Torrentispora has thick-walled spores, check T. fibrosa with spores in the same size range, but there is no mention of the reddish peridium.

cheers,

Jacques

yes, Torrentispora is also close but the Danish collection has 2-celled spores, a non-aquatic habitat and possibly a less prominent apical apparatus and a thinner ascus stipe?

a headache, as usual!

yes, indeed :-)
