White, hairy on Populus leaf
Marja Pennanen, 14-10-2018 19:25
Hi,

on a Populus leaf among other things, I found a couple of fruitbodies of tiny (0,2 mm) hairy ones of which I have no idea even of the genus.

The spores are about 8-10x3-3,5.

The asci are 40-50x8-10, faintly IKI+ blue.

There are two kind of hairs or hairs and glassy setas.

Marginal hairs are "Cistellalike" often widest at the base, about 20-40x4-6,

The glassy ones are about 20-60x4-6 and do not change in KOH 5%.

The collection now includes 1 fruitbody, when I accidently managed to pick 2 to the first preparate, so I may still manage to make one preparate.

So, what have I managed to find now except difficulties to find a determination myself?

Sorry, that I could not offer a macrophoto, but it would have shown a normal white hairy, tiny disc.

Dear Marja
This looks much like Protounguicularia (Olla) transiens which I only know from wood.
Did you see the ascus base? It should be without croziers.

Re : White, hairy on Populus leaf
Dear Zotto,

I know Olla transiens very well from Sorbus aucuparia.

These glassy hairs have big lumen and are not septate. And then there are the other Cistellalike hairs. Hope this photo shows them both.

Yes, I see. But it is a bit too unsharp. No idea...

Re : White, hairy on Populus leaf
Hi Zotto,

I was lucky and managed to find some more on  an another leaf, that I had collected because of Typhulas. I took some macrophotos and checked one to be sure, that they were the same and they seem to be. I checked the marginal hairs first and then pressed to check the other microscophy. Mr. Murphy is often sitting on my shoulders and I ended pressing too hard.

I'll try, if Seppo has got some ideas of the genus.

Hi,

Seppo was not near definitions, but remembered, that Hyalopeziza tianschanika was something like this. And indeed it is, but not quite.
