Hymenoscyphus macroguttatus on Aruncus dioicus?
Johan Myhrer, 31-08-2018 14:16
Yesterday I found what I concluded to be H. macroguttatus in a garden in central Sweden. Just a few small fruitbodies on a standing broken stem of Aruncus dioicus by a south facing wall. Unfortunately but a few free spores could be measured; ~17-19x4µm, with 2-3 large guttules. Asci 87-93µm, araising from croziers(?), IKI+ with slight blue reaction. Paraphyses with numerous guttules.

In my opinion the asci are simple-septate. You don't have free spores to better see the spore shape?

A closer look at the largest fruitbody (~1,5mm) with lots of free spores and they actually measure 20-22x4-4,5µm. I got very unsure about the paraphyses too now, they seem to be wrinkly?

Re : Hymenoscyphus macroguttatus on Aruncus dioicus?
The paraphysis is dead and the plasma got granular and contracted.
The spores are clearly scutuloid, partly with short setulae at the ends.
This should belong in the H. scutula complex, it is not H. macroguttatus.
