Ascos on Ilex aquifolium
Alan Smith, 29-11-2017 21:56
The attached photographs are dead, dry leaves of Ilex aquifolium. They seem to have several ascos on them.

I think photo 1 is probably Trochila ilicina - the patches only show on the top surface of the leaves.

Perhaps photo 2 is Phacidium multivalve ...? - these show on both surfaces of the leaves

The photos labelled 3 - 5 show many, tiny fruiting bodies, many with yellow centres - perhaps 0.2mm, from which I found spores. I am not knowledgable enough to identify this one, but perhaps someone could comment on whether it might be Calonectria erubescens?

merci d'avance, Alan

Re : Ascos on Ilex aquifolium
The apothecia of T. ilicina have a striking black lid by which they open. I have no info about an anamorph as in T. laurocerasi, although I imagine it exists.
