Discinella aff lividopurpurea
Viktorie Halasu, 30-07-2017 09:46
Viktorie HalasuHello forum,

this small ascomycete grow on wet bare clayey soil in spruce plantation, 690 m a.s.l., on a place damaged by machines (immediately close to another fungi - Byssonectria deformis and Scutellinia pseudotrechispora). I think it's close to Discinella lividopurpurea (= Ombrophila limosella?), but it has inamyloid asci (I tried IKI, KOH+IKI, KOH+MLZ, but not a trace of bluing) and ectal excipulum at the base of apo is amyloid.

Apothecia up to 1,5 mm, turbinate tu substipitate, younger greyviolet, then purplish.
Sp. dead (8) 8,3-10,4 (10,5) × (3,1) 3,4-4 (4,5) um, very few free spores.
Asci croziers + , IKI-, MLZ-.
Paraphyses filiform, not enlarged, content??
Ectal excipulum of textura porrecta, at the base bluing in IKI - or maybe there's some gel that's blueing?
Medúlla ??

It reminds the Nicolas' collection here: http://ascofrance.fr/search_forum/3011 with those inamyloid asci, but spores are narrower and he didn't report anything amyloid in excipulum.

I appologize for the terrible micro. Unfortunately I had to work with exsiccate and without stereo microscope I failed to cut better samples freehand from such a small asco.
Thank you for any advices.

Re : Discinella aff lividopurpurea
Hi Victorieyour micros are too unsharp to say something definite. Spore size is a bit short but lividopurpurea (limosella) appears to vary in spore length.

Inamyloidity of the ascus apex is strange, but who knows it might happen sometimes. Amyloidity of basal gel layer I do not see on your pics.

Re : Discinella aff lividopurpurea
Hello Zotto,
here is the base of apothecium, first in Lugol (dilluted a bit), second in KOH+MLZ. It was rather weakly blue, but I thought it could be called amyloid.
Perhaps it was not fully mature and that's why the smaller spores. I didn't see almost any free spores in the mount. I'll try to find a bigger apothecium, if there's any difference.

Yes, it is faintly amyloid.
