Lachnum-like fungus
Nicolas VAN VOOREN, 14-05-2017 19:36
Nicolas VAN VOORENHere is a collection (unfortunately not in a very good condition) of a small Lachnum-like fungus, growing on a small piece of wood (maybe Salix), near a pond.
The apothecia are very small, 0.2-0.5 mm, and stipite, totally white. Crystals are abundant on the ectal excipulum.
Asci are IKI+ (bb) and seem to be aporynchous. Paraphyses are lanceolate, protuding the asci.
Hairs are roundish at the top, measure 55-65 × 3-4 µm, with a refractive content, and also with a amorphous matter at the top. Ascospores are narrow fusoid, elongated, 15-21 (22.5) × 1.1-1.8 µm, OCI ~2-3.

At first sight, I thought it was a Lachnum or Dayscyphella species, but this type of hairs doesn't remind me any species in these genera.
Any suggestion?

Re : Lachnum-like fungus
Hi Nicolas
such large ascospores are unknown in Lachnum to my knowledge, although the hairs would in my opinion fit the genus. Since both hairs and spores are dead, it is very difficult to make up one's mind. With such spores the asci should also be extraordinarily large? No photo of the parapyses?

The figured apo looks to me larger than 0.5 mm judging from the hair length, maybe because of squasing.

Zotto

I saw that Lachnum schoenoplecti have such large spores, but it doesn't grow on wood.

Yes, on grasses exist several species with such a spore size.
