did the apothecia grow on or near leaves of poplar-trees (Populus)? That would be characteristic for T. bicuspis. And, of course, the hairs pointed at both ends.
Regards Till
PS: I wonder if the fungus grows exclusively near rotten leaves of poplars.

All the best!

Hello together,
I found T. biscuspis some times in my life - typically in leaf litter of Populus (nigra-canadensis). But I also found it in other environments lacking of Populus. Unfortunately, this is quite long ago and I have no documents digitally (I have a digicam only since about 6 or 7 years). But fortunately there should be herbarium material kept in Stuttgart and/or Karlsruhe.
If somebody is planning a monograph of Trichophaeopsis, she or he should perhaps have a look at ther specimens. In this case, I woul do the work and look for them ....
Best regards from Lothar
