Bernard
I saw this well but important is: are they septate in the living ascus.
Septa are common in hymenoscyphus and Phaeohelotium, but only in overmature spores. Did you see turgescent asci?
This species has been collected several times in Belgium, Flanders , a.o. on leaves of Populus. I tentatively called it Hymenoscyphus cf. strangulatus (Velen.) Svr?ek, the only Western European Hymenoscyphus species I know producing 3-septate spores within living asci, but it needs a new name.
Bernard
Très content de te lire. Merci pour ton avis sur cet asco !
Amitiés,
Bernard
And thanks Bernard C., the photos are splendid!
What I still wonder:
- B.D. draws an apothecium with a stipe longer than apo diameter, how long are the stipes in your sample?
- I think your asci have croziers, do you have a clearer photo or did you see that?
It seems I never met this fungus, which could belong in the relationship of H. menthae which stands quite apart between Hymenoscyphus and Phaeohelotium.

Bernard
a) the mature spores are typically constricted at the septa
b) I think asci have a crozier at the base but it is not very clear to me
c) I also checked the length of the stems/diameter apothecia : 550/810 - 550/720 - 800/750
What do you think about that ?
Bernard
Stalk length is fine!
I returned on site tonight and have found several copies of Hymenoscyphus cf. strangulatus. I'll let them ripen to see mature spores with any conidia.
But I redid the macro and micro pictures you can use.
Bernard
I just make an observation on very mature apothecia.
Obviously mature spores, triseptate, break up at the walls and give conidia. These are sometimes interconnected by a filament (anastomoses between conidia was talking Zotto?)
What do you think about that ?
Bernard
Bernard
C'est peut-être parce que les spores sont trop mûres, et il y a une ou deux cellules qui sont mortes et se sont vidées de leur cytoplasme.
