Chaetosphaeria?
Malcolm Greaves, 19-05-2015 13:49
Malcolm GreavesCan someone help with what I thought was a Chaetosphaeria sp. but with the Perithecia at almost .8mm I now think it is too big for that group.
The spores are mostly 3 septate and 12um long.
A point towards the right genus would be apreciated.
Thanks
Mal

Re : Chaetosphaeria?
Hello Mal
not a lot to go at here really; the macro shot makes one think more of a xylariaceous fungus. Did you see any asci?
The second shot shows a "dematiaceous hyphomycete" with attached conidia; but if associated with the perithecia, this doesn't represent any of the anamorphic genera associated with Chaetosphaeria.
The third shot shows, I think, more of the conidia and possibly a darkish ascospore (again, xylariaceous?).
I'm not much help I fear - any chance of some more images?

best wishes

Chris

Re : Chaetosphaeria?
Thanks Chris
Not a lot to go on as you say. The Perithecia were dried out so no sign of asci. I will look at more fruitbodies and see if there is anything worthy of note and if not deposit securely in the "unknown" folder.
