Unknown Mollisia
Maren Kamke, 23-03-2014 19:53
Maren KamkeHi everybody,
I found this mollisia species on decidious wood, pale grey apothecia up to 0,5 mm, dark brown short marginal hairs which do not seem to reach the edge. Ascospores becoming 3-septate in overmature state, (8-16) 12,04 x 2,22 (2-3) µm, oil 2-3. Asci with croziers, IkL positive bb, 61-69 x 6-7 µm, Paraphyses 3 µm filled with cylindrical refractive content, KOH negative.
Thank you
Maren

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hi Maren

you have no idea about which tree this branch belonged? The bark looks interesting, was it a Vuilleminia that caused these fusiform holes in the periderm?

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hi Zotto,
it looks a like Prunus sp., I don't think it was a Vuilleminia, the bark curls up at those places, typical for cherry, I think. The other specimens on that twig were Diaporthe eres and Amphisphaeria millepunctata.
Regards,
Maren

Hi Maren,

did you compare with Mollisia discolor? Just an idea, it is described as having long spores which may have septations at maturity.

regards,
björn

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hi Björn,
Mollisia discolor was also a candidate of mine, I dismissed it because the spores are too wide and the color should be pale ochre never gray. Regarding the description was this species found near the location of Pyrenomycetes, same as mine.

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hi Maren & Björn

I think that M. discolor has just this spore size (length and width), and also the LBs inside would fit quite well. But I wonder because I know M. discolor only with whitish disc and blackish exterior.

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hi again,
thank you, I think M. discolor it is.

The description of M. discolor however in Andreas key says in no. 38a "Hymenium hellocker, nie grau oder bläulich"

Re : Unknown Mollisia
Hello in the round,
in a earlier version write Andreas "Hymenium hellocker, nie (?) grau oder schwärzlich".
I know M. discolor only too, how described by H.O.B. and on the fotos from the last weekend.
Greetings Peter.
