A star shaped nectriaceae (?)
Esquivel-Rios Eduardo, 23-10-2012 22:53
Hi All.

I recently found on dead stems of Chusquea (Bambusaceae) a fungus with perithecia surrounded by a star-shaped ornament, approximately 0.5 to 0.8 mm. diameter, asci with 8 biseriate ascospores, with a  central, septa, hyaline, elongated, acute apices, 10-12 x 3-5 microns.

I would appreciate your opinion ...

Re : A star shaped nectriaceae (?)
Hi Eduardo,
your fungus is a Bionectriaceae, genus Ijuhya or Hydropisphaera, it would be necessary to know thickness of the lateral wall of the perithecium.
Please, let me know if the ascospores are smooth , spinulose or striate.
Take a look at this link: http://www.ascofrance.fr/search_recolte/2986?
Here is a key of the species of Ijuhya with hairs.

Regards,
Christian

Re : A star shaped nectriaceae (?)
Thanks.

Ascospores are apparently smooth, slightly curved, and there are some asci with only 4.
