Geopora sumneriana!
Ridha EL MOKNI, 12-03-2012 00:26
Hello Dear mushroom experts,

yesterday I found this huge ascomycete within a pine forest under Aleppo pine in northwestern Tunisia.

Can you confirm my identification or is it another species of Geopora?!

Thank you very much in advance.

EL Ridha MOKNI

Re : Geopora sumneriana!
No, es Sarcosphaera crassa

Re : Geopora sumneriana!
La surface externe paraît bien lisse et ces tons un peu violacé sur l'hyménium font plutôt penser à Sarcosphaera crassa comme le did Placido.

Re : Geopora sumneriana!
Hello Redha,

I do join the suggestion of our colleagues. Geopora sumneriana prefers growing under cedar trees (the French name is : geopore des cèdres), occasionally under yew trees (If). For comparison I am attaching some pictures of G. sumneriana collected in 2011, at the Chrea National Park (Algeria).

Best.

Souhila.

Re : Geopora sumneriana!

Thank you very much for your help.

I can see very well why isn't it Geopora!

Souhila, thank you very much for the photos.

Best Regards.
