Valsa, need help/literature
Björn Wergen, 12-12-2011 23:43
Björn WergenHi again,

yesterday I have found 2 species of the genus Valsa. To make this sure, it would be great if someone can give me a hint for literature about Valsa (and near related genera). Although Ellis&Ellis is not bad with pyrenos, the genus Valsa is shown only "rudimentary" (just a few descriptions).

Many many thanks for all the help.

regards,
björn

Re : Valsa, need help/literature
hi

I think the reason the coverage seems 'rudimentary' is because in the UK there are very few true Valsa species left on the list, and many of those rest on one or two old records; in addition many records of Valsa tend to be those of Cytospora anamorphs rather than the sexual stage

most Valsa species have been redisposed into other genera

I can offer A monograph of Valsa on hardwoods in North Americ?a by Linda Spielman (Canadian Journal of Botany Volume 63, pp. 1355-1377)

also, for near related genera, do you have Margaret Barr's The Diaporthales in North America? (Mycologia Memoir No. 7, 1978)?

best wishes

Chris

Re : Valsa, need help/literature
Hi Chris,

many thanks for the offer, I am very interested in it. I do not know the first one, but I know Margaret Barr's Diaporthales. I just do not know if I have the work on my PC, I remember that I had found it somewhere on internet. (google books? internet archive?).

What means offer? Can you send me these documents? It would help a lot.

regards,
björn
