One of a odd kind
Marja Pennanen, 08-07-2010 01:02
Hello again,
I picked these on Carex leaves.
They are about 0,2 to 0, 4 mm wide and whitish when young.

Hi Marja,
looks nice but....
No idea without microscopical data!
we will see that tomorrow.
cheers Stip

Re:One of a odd kind
The spores are about (10-) 15-18x3-4, containing many small and sometimes some big droplets, narrower at the other end and asci 80-120x 9-11, hemiamyloid.
But the odd thing is the paraphyses, which are septate. Lanceolate may be the word for the not so perfectly linear shape.
The yellow color comes from paraphyse tips, which carry droplets.

I've never seen anything like this, eventhough I studied these last year with a poor microscope ;)

Hi there Stip,
this really looks nice :) - and very, very strange to me.
I found this at the same trip to the swamp as the longhaired one I'm wondering in another message.
I was there yesterday and still have some species waiting to be studied. Overcollecting is one of my bad habits ;)

Looking forward for you and others reliefing comments: Marja

Hi Marja

Coronellaria benkertii. But this is sensu meo, and I forgot the reason what benkertii s. str. is

Hi Marja,
i doubt the comments are reliefing :(
the paraphyses seems point to Psilachnum or Lachnum with yellow Vacuolebodies (the yellow droplets are VBs judging the IKI reaction) but the ascus ans sporesize dont fit.
i hope somebody has seen this spec before.
cheers Stip

Re:One of a odd kind
Thank you very, very much :)

I'm happy to meet a member of a genus unknown to me since this :)
(The species may even be new to Finland...)

Could someone explain the term sensu meo?

Smiling: Marja

Re:One of a odd kind
Svrcek's description seems to fit quite well but he describes the paraphyses as cylindric 3,5 wide but till 6 widened asci 70-110x11-14 spores 17-20,5x4-4,5

sensu meo = in my opinion

Re:One of a odd kind
I once identified these yellow fungi as C. benkertii, but later got some doubts when carefully reading the original description. the problem is that Svrcek probably described the fungus from dried material.

sensu meo means "in my sense" or "in my old opinion"

Seeing the very first picture Bactridium flavum comes to mind, try googling for it!

Re:One of a odd kind
Hello,

seems, that I've found something else of this genus, maybe C. caricinella. The asci are not that long (65-75x10-15). So I would need some kind of descriptions of the species. Does someone know a publication, where the genus is presented? I could loan it from Helsinki university.

And once again, thank you Stip and thank you Zotto for opening me the door to the wonders of this genus. You really are treasures :)

Thank you Beppe for introducing me the interesting species, it really looks quite same :)

Re:One of a odd kind
I have recently written a paper with Torsten Richter on the genus. It is in German, however.
