Yellowish on Lycopodium
Marja Pennanen, 12-06-2010 11:30
When I found that hairy ascomycetes on Lycopodium I found this too:
It looks like some Hymenoscyphus and is 0,3 mm high and wide.

But the views on microscope were nothing like Hymenoscyphus:

Re:Yellowish on Lycopodium
The spores have multiple droplets and are about 20-22x7-9 micrometers.
Asci are about 110-120x11-13 and paraphyses have septas and droplets and are 1.5-2,5 wide, perhaps a little bit longer than asci.

Heres a photo after lugol was added.

Being so green with this hobby of mine, I have no idea of the genus :(

Once again confused Marja

Hi Marja.
To determine the genus, it's important to examine the shape of the ascus apical ring (visible with the IKI reaction). I attached a Zotto's plate which provides the three main types of ring (for Helotiales).

Hi Nicolas,
I only found two fruitbodies. One is gone.
I wonder weather I can get good enough views to the ascus apices with my microscope to determine the type, probably first or second. I should find these more. Luckily its raining now :)

Re:Yellowish on Lycopodium
Hello,

yesterday evening after the rain had stopped I went to another Lycopodium place and found some more. This is really scanty...

Anyway, in Lugol it seemed like a Hymenoscyphus.
The spores were 17-20x6-8 and asci 120-140(-160) x 11-13.

There must be some setae on the stipe, while it coloured darker in Lugol.
The paraphyse tips got a stroger color, too.

I can't find a Hymenoscyphus, that would fit to these :(
And once again I was wrong and I'm happy about that. When I'm right, I learn nothing...

Thank for that foto :) I learned something and I value that highly.

Greetings: Marja

Hello,

this seems to be Poculopsis ogrensis.
Besides being new to me, propably for Finland, too :)
