Niptera / Phaeohelotium ?
Miguel Ángel Ribes,

This is a small ascomycete of 3-4 mm, on beech (Fagus sylvatica) that was inside a stream. Biseriate with croziers asci, and the following reactions:
* IKI: dark red
* KOH + IKI: dark blue
* Melzer: very weak dirty red
* KOH + Melzer: dark blue
Large 3-septate spores, sometimes with 2, slightly strangled in the septa:
(19.5) 20.4 - 25 (28.6) x (4.4) 4.7 - 5.8 (7.3) µm
Q = (3) 3.7 - 5 (5.6) ; N = 55
Me = 22.8 x 5.2 µm ; Qe = 4.4
Paraphyses thickened and pigmented at the apex.
With the keys I arrive to Niptera, Phaeohelotium, Bisporella or Cudoniella, but no more.
Thank you again,
Miguel Ángel

Re:Niptera / Phaeohelotium ?
Hello,
looks very much like Ombrophila hemiamyloidea Baral & Gminder!
abstract: http://www.mycologia-bavarica.de/de/abstracts/abstracts_03.htm#baral_3
Especially the reddish reaction of the spora sheet is a important feature and it seems to be seen on your first picture.
best regards,
Andreas

Yepp, I see no reason why the determination should be wrong. But let's see if le maître has some arguments against it ....
I think new for spain.

Andreas

Re:Niptera / Phaeohelotium ?
No doubt :-)
The excipulum and therefore the apothecia should be somewhat gelatinous.
Miguel, did you collect it in Spain or Macaronesia? Please let me know the collection data to learn more about its distribution..
thanks!

Re:Niptera / Phaeohelotium ?
Wonderful. Thank you Andreas, Alain, Zotto ... and Enrique
Yes Zotto, it was gelatinous. It is from Iberian Penísnula, not Macaronesia, but I do not know exactly the location. I did not pick up the species, just know that there was wood in a stream, I will ask the collector.
Thank you all again.
