Leptodontidium cf. trabinellum
Åge Oterhals, 24-03-2026 15:44
I hope someone can confirm the name of this collection.
Found on rotten, large, old decorticated Sorbus aucuparia branch in September 2025.
Matches Leptodontidium trabinellum, however, the apothecia are browner compared to other pictures I have seen of the species, however, matches the color stated in E&E 1997 p. 15 ("honey-colored or pale burnt-sienna").
Apothecia honey-colored up to 300 µm diam. with a lighter rim. Outer surface concolorous with hymenium, excipulum hyphae with swollen top cell. Asci with crozier, MLZ+; 79-83 x 11-14 µm. Sp. oval with one end somewhat tapering, with 1-2 large and several small LBs; 8,5-12,0 x 3,5-4,6 µm. Paraphyses cylindric 1,5-3,6 µm, some with minor swollen apices.

Regards,
Åge

Re : Leptodontidium cf. trabinellum
I cannot say for sure. The apical ring you did not photograph? The paraphyses are usually densely septate at their base, this is not clear here. Excipular structure looks good, and the colour I think is fine too.

Re : Leptodontidium cf. trabinellum
To meet your requests, I include a new photo of the paraphysis showing the multiseptate lower part. I have also improved the contrast of earlier picture showing the apical ring in MLZ.
Hope this gives you the needed details.

Yes, this confirms L. trabinellum.
