Karstenia? anamoph?
Margot en Geert Vullings, 28-12-2025 12:08
This possible Karstenia was found on the bark of deciduous wood. We found only two septate spores that point to Karstenia idaei, and we think we see the periphysoids.
Spore measured in water: 50 × 3 µm
When making a slide, orange strings containing many anamorphic spores emerged from beneath these craters.
Conidia measured in water: 6.7 - 7.5 × 1.6 - 1.9µm, Q = 3.6 - 4.6
Could this be the anamorph of K. idaei? We haven't found any anamorphs of Karstenia idaei in Ellis&Ellis or online.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Geert&Margot

Re : Karstenia? anamoph?
I don`t think so. Look better in the vicinity of Valsa and Leucostoma.
Yours, Lothar

Re : Karstenia? anamoph?
the tiny black spots could be an Eutypella quaternata with its orange anamorph Libertella faginea.

Though the septate conidia look more like a Fusarium. Maybe another contamination...

Martin

Re : Karstenia? anamoph?
Thanks to both of you for the replies.
We'll continue our search and see if we can find asci.

Martin: The orange strands emerged from under the white perithecia when I poked them. We also initially thought it was Eutypella quaternata, which we've seen before, but we couldn't place it with the white discs.

Best regards, Geert&Margot
