Francois GuayHi everyone,
I found this ascomycete on decaying leaves and think it might be a Calycellina species, but I'm unsure about the exact identification. Could it be C. araneocincta?

Here are the details:

Substrate: Found on decaying leaves
Apothecia Up to 300 µm wide
Spores 12–15.35 × 2–2.6 µm
Asci 32.5–35.5 µm long, IKI +, clavate
Paraphyses septate with oil content

here is the iNat link for photos: https://inaturalist.ca/observations/254053215

thanks !

Re : Calycellina sp.
I think the asci are mainly 4-spored. This must be C. lachnobrachya, with whitish apos, usually on Acer and Quercus. C. araneocincta with yellow apos grows on Alnus and Betula. The problem is that hyaline VBs turn yellow with age. The VBs that I see on your pics are all in dead cells, so might havebeen hyaline. The apos look t me too whitish to be araneocincta. Any idea of the host?

Re : Calycellina sp.
It makes sense. It was found on Acer, and the apos were more whitish when I found them. It was forgotten in my fridge for one month before I did the microscopy. Thank you, Zotto. I will keep it for DNA sequencing.

Re : Calycellina sp.
The only existing sequence is that by Ethan (OR872184) collected yesterday. None exists for C. araneocincta. I am not sure if such long-stored specimen works, often one gets a contamination.

Note that the content of the paraphyses is not oil which would resist in KOH, these are VBs (KOH-soluble).

Re : Calycellina sp.
I will try and update here if I get a sequence. Thank you for the precision on VB's.
