Orbilia on Salix
Juuso Äikäs,

today I found a few scattered Orbilia fruitbodies growing on a thin, dead branch attached to a Salix caprea tree, at the height of ca. 1.5 m. So, clearly a desiccation tolerant species.
Paraphyses with an inflated tip. The spores measure 3.8 - 4.5 × 1.9 - 2.2 µm.
Any hope getting to species level?

This is typical O. eucalypti.

Hi Zotto,
am I right that this (eucalypti) is what was formerly called coccinella and collected on air-dry twigs?
Best regards, Lothar

Re : Orbilia on Salix
In principle yes. But it is far from easy.
Surely O. coccinella s.auct. would include O. pluriguttulata and O. tremulae, the latter typically on the ground and often with a yellow tint.
Whether O. eucalypti is still heterogeneous is a matter of taste. It includes a lot of genotypes.

Ok, nice, a new species (complex) for me. Thanks!
