Brown disc on soil
Margot en Geert Vullings, 02-04-2023 18:49
We found this 3mm brown asco with thick stem April 2, 2023 on sand among moss on sparse soil among pines.
Spores (16.6) 16.9 - 17.9 (18.8) × (6.2) 6.5 - 7.3 (7.5) µm
Q = (2.3) 2.31 - 2.7 (2.9) ; N = 10
Me = 17.4 × 6.8 µm ; Qe = 2.5
Ascus 165.1 × 10.6 µm
Asci after KOH and Melzers apical blue
Parafysen width 3.11 - 3.2 µm

What species could this be?

Thanks in advance

Re : Brown disc on soil
I suppose it grew on some monocot but I am not sure. Rutstroemia calopus or R. paludosa (now both in Clarireedia), depending on the croziers.

Re : Brown disc on soil
We carefully detached the disc from sand with a fine needle and did not see that the disc was attached to anything.
There was some grass and moss growing, but no Carex in the area.
We think we saw croziers? So it would be R. calopus?

Re : Brown disc on soil
By the way, Zotto, what paper established that R. calopus is a synonym of C. bennettii or that C. calopus is to be considered as a Clarireedia ? Amitiés. Michel

Re : Brown disc on soil
The paper will appear soon in Life. It is about Helotium fulvum and in this matter it was necessary to decide whether or not to accept Clarireedia as a genus of its own.

The layout is finished, we got it just yesterday and now I need to apply a few corrections.

Re : Brown disc on soil
We would very much  like to know if R. calopus is correct or is it impossible to say with the latest photos?

Re : Brown disc on soil
It is difficult. The broken ascus base recalls more a simple septation with a blind basal protuberance, typical of C. paludosa. Look at my folder henningsiana-paludosa

Re : Brown disc on soil
Sorry Hans-Otto, we can't find your folder about henningsiana-paludosa?

Re : Brown disc on soil
Thank you very much, we have seen it.

We will see if the bit of material is still suitable to make another specimen, it was only one tiny disc.
