Troposporella fumosum => Troposporella monilipes

Hello,

Nearby the find of Calycina claroflava on Populus x canescens (by Rene Hoogenboom)  I found this nice hyphomycete.

Could this be Troposporella fumosum?

Greetings, Riet

Re : Troposporella fumosum? on Populus x canescens
Hi Riet

It looks close. Have you eliminated Troposporella (Helicoma) monilipes?

Do you have access to:

Goos RD (1986) A review of the anamorph genera Helicoma. Mycologia 78:744–761

Helicosporous hyphomycetes from China (2007) Fungal Diversity

Regards

Chris

Re : Troposporella fumosum? on Populus x canescens
Hi Riet,
Looking at the colour and size of the conidia spirals they seem to match T. monilipes more - dark brown and 12-19µm, whereas T. fumosa are Golden Brown and 12-16. Your images here against the scale provided suggest 19-20 plus at the high end. Also not constricted and although difficult to judge without seeing T. fumosa I would expect more constriction. Probably added to the confusion!

Best wishes Tony

Re : Troposporella fumosum => Troposporella monilipes
Hi Riet, do you happen to have any material of this to share with me? I am interested in perhaps trying to culture it if it has been air-dried, and then sequence it? Nice observations!

Re : Troposporella fumosum => Troposporella monilipes
Hi Jason,
Thank you! :-)
Got an email from Rene that he is on holiday now.  I'm sure he will collect new material when he gets back.
I will email you when the material is collected, checked and dried.
Best wishes, Riet

Fantastic! I hope that he is able to find more. Please air-dry the specimen so that I can attempt to culture it. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

Re : Troposporella fumosum => Troposporella monilipes
Hi Riet,
I am preparing a culture of this to send to CBS for deposition. I realized that I don't have complete collection data. I have Rene Hoogenboom as the collector and you as determiner. On Populus x canescens, in Netherlands but I don't have exact locality information or collection date. I will deposit the specimen in BPI.
Kind regards, Jason
