Black, erumpent ascomata on alpine Salix
Edvin Johannesen,

These dark, erumpent, somewhat flaky apothecia, 1-3 mm in diameter when dry, were growing on thin twigs of Salix at 1100 m alt. in Western Norway mid-June. They never opened, even after rehydration. Dark outer tissue layer (textura intricata/oblita) and a thicker, whitish middle layer. Asci with croziers, IKI-. I have not seen mature ascospores, but I think I saw small spherical spores (conidia or secondary ascospores) in a previous mount. Paraphyses filiform, extending far beyond the asci. Asci ca. 60-70 micr. long.I am pretty sure I have seen this before, but I am not able to recall what it is. Any suggestions?
(I have used phase contrast on three images in order to vizualise the ascus base.)
Thanks.

Re : Black, erumpent ascomata on alpine Salix
Looks like Godronia cf. fuliginosa, the teleomorph.

Re : Black, erumpent ascomata on alpine Salix
No, Thomas - no pigments observed (I assume you have purplish pigments in mind).

Re : Black, erumpent ascomata on alpine Salix
Thanks, Peter - that looks like a good suggestion. The asci are too small and IKI-, but I suspect they are simply immature (no ascospores seen).
