Calycina herbarum ?
Ethan Crenson, 05-11-2021 18:11
Hello all,
This was found growing on a stem of what I think is Solidago in New York City.

The apothecia are waxy and very small, pale-yellow, with pseudo-stipe (certainly not sessile).

Asci were hemiamyloid—red in Lugol's— blue in Lugol's pretreated with KOH; size about 75 x 6µm.

Spores 1-septate, guttulate, 11-14.7 x 2.5-3.5µm

Paraphyses septate, enlarged toward the apex, about 2.7µm wide.

This looks a lot like Calycina herbarum to me, but spore size seems like it is at the smaller end of the range, so maybe there are other options I should consider?

Any help is very appreciated.
Ethan

Re : Calycina herbarum ?
I think this is a good size. A bit larger spores has C. subherbarum (with croziers). Did you look for the absence of croziers?

Re : Calycina herbarum ?
I believe it was without croziers.  This photo is the best one I have that might illustrate that feature. It seems flat at the base.  Does that look right?

Yes, it looks so.
