Long-stemmed Bryoscyphus-like on mosses/liverworts
Edvin Johannesen, 03-09-2021 16:16
Edvin JohannesenThese peach-coloured (becoming more reddish on ageing), 1-2 mm diam. long-stemmed apothecia were found with their stems deeply embedded in mixed mosses/liverworts at the bank of a stream in subalpine area, Central Norway. Spores measure 11-12 x 3-4 microns, rather narrowly ellipsoid/fusiform with LBs mostly towards the polar regions. Spores aggregating towards the apex, apparently released together, sometimes in a lump. Paraphyses filiform, irregular in shape, sometimes branched, aguttulate (?). No croziers observed. Asci tips amyloid (blue in Lugol). Not sure how to characterize the excipulum; epidermoidea, porrecta or prismatica, maybe a combination (advice is sought - see photos).
I believe the apothecia are situated on the mosses (or liverworts), but I haven't been able to find out on which.
Bryoscyphus?

Microscopy reminds me of Bryoscyphus turbinatus (at present in my Arachnoscypha folder in Arachnopezizaceae), but I never saw it with such a long stipe.

Thanks, Zotto - I'll have a look.
