I think these are probably the remains of expelled Pilaira sporangia, which one can often find on the surface of the dung - see http://www.naturefg.com/pages/b-fungi/pilaira%20anomala.htm

That's a perfectly good suggestion; in fact I originally typed Pilobolus and then altered it as in culture Pilobolus tends to shoot its sporangia away from the dung, whereas Pilaira is less "ballistic".
I happily bow to your knowledge on this - in any case we are both in the same area (and well away from Asco's!).
