Gray Helotiales on Typha
Juuso Äikäs,

Sublanceolate paraphyses with VBs, asci with croziers, IKI rb.
Spores:
(14.7) 15.5 - 16.8 (17.4) × 4.3 - 4.6 (4.8) µm
Q = (3.3) 3.5 - 3.8 (4) ; N = 12
Me = 16.1 × 4.5 µm ; Qe = 3.6
This seems quite distinctive, but I don't have an idea where this belongs. What do you think?

Hi Juuso
Coronellaria caricinella?
Coronellaria caricinella?

Thank you for the suggestion Enrique!
That seems to be a promising candidate. I'll look into that direction.

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
There exist two species or variants, one with croziers and the other without. The former occurs from lowland to the Alps, the latter is so far known to me only from orotemperate to boreal regions.
Juuso, is your area boreal?

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
As far as I know this area is right at the northern edge of the hemiboreal zone. When you go maybe 15 km north of here, you're in the southern boreal zone.
----
I happened to find some beige apos right next to the gray ones. I presume these are Coronellaria pulicaris. The presence of croziers was tricky to see, but I'm fairly sure these are without them. The spores measure 13.5 - 16.9 × 3.8 - 4.2 µm.

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
Hmm, I remember a higher oil content of the larger spores of C. pulicaris. Croziers I am not sure, this looks to me simple-septate.

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
Yes, I also think that the croziers are absent.

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
Yes. This means you have two species of C. caricinella on your culms. This was also my experience in a collection, also with differences in excipular pigmentation.

Re : Gray Helotiales on Typha
Yes Enrique, this was my concept of C. caricinella when I studied it from the Vosges. Later I saw samples with croziers from lowlads. This is treated in a paper Richter & Baral 2008.
I think so far the type of C. caricinella is unclear regarding croziers.

Yes, I was aware of your excellent paper on this matter.
