Regrettably only the spores are alive. The oil content in the spores is one of the most important diagnostic features. The spore with a septum is dead and therefore no drops visible. Certainly the asci of this population eject non-septate spores only, so the septate spore is overmature.
The living paraphyses contain very long refractive vacuoles (your friend should mount in water instead of Congo), which yield in some species a yellow extract when adding KOH, but not in M. ventosa as Mirek already wrote.
