Mollisia?
Carbone Matteo, 27-05-2020 00:13
Dear all,
my friend Emanuele Campo sent this pdf to me asking for help... I must admit I cannot help him! :D

What do you see here?

Spores 13-16x3 µm, some with 1 septum
Asci J+
Parafisi cylindrical 2,5-3,5µm
Excipulum textura globulosa

Bye

Matte

Re : Mollisia?
Hi Matte
When testing Mollisia, it is mandatory to check the response to KOH.
If the reaction was negative, it is possible that this is a young Mollisia ventosa ???

Re : Mollisia?
Regrettably only the spores are alive. The oil content in the spores is one of the most important diagnostic features. The spore with a septum is dead and therefore no drops visible. Certainly the asci of this population eject non-septate spores only, so the septate spore is overmature.

The living paraphyses contain very long refractive vacuoles (your friend should mount in water instead of Congo), which yield in some species a yellow extract when adding KOH, but not in M. ventosa as Mirek already wrote.

Thank to all for the replies!

Ok! I told to my friend Emanuele to test the KOH reaction! We'll see the results!

Thanks a loto again!

Re : Mollisia?
This would confirm M. ventosa.
