Unknown Helotiales (Hymenoscyphus sp.?) – Hungary
Benko Gabor, 30-04-2020 15:23
Benko GaborDear Group!

I would like to ask for your help. I found these small apothecia in a marshy, wet area, near alders and Corylus avellana, on an unknown rotten wood. The apothecia turned reddish (from pale yellow) by the time I got home with them. Ascii are positive to Melzer's reagent. I think, this is can be a Hymenoscyphus sp. What do you think, is it possible to get closer? Thanks for any help! (Hungary, Europe)

Hi Benko

I suppose this is Phaeohelotium imberbe (Hymenosc. imberbis). That would be clearer if you would show living paraphyses with their contents. Also the ascus base should be with croziers.

Excipulum in section at flanks of globose-angular cells.
