Calycellina 071219 065 on Quercus suber
Miguel Ángel Ribes, 09-04-2020 19:51
Miguel Ãngel RibesGood evening guys

I found this small apos (1,5-2 mm) on a Quercus suber leaf in Morocco with a Hymenoscyphus shape, but with apical ring Calycina type and hemiamyloid.

Ectal excipulum with textura prismatica, hyaline, without apparent hairs on the margin. Medular excipulum with textura intricata, hyaline. Paraphysis with a large BV or with several medium to large size, yellow. Octosporic asci, biseriate, I think with croziers, hemiamyloid. Spores with a navicular appearance, with one end more acute and the other more rounded, with 2 medium size gutules on both sides of the nucleus and another quite smaller, without septa in living spores, but with 1 septum in dead state, of (15.6) 16.9 - 21.1 (29) × (4.5) 4.8 - 5.6 (6.1) µm; Q = (3) 3.2-4 (5.4); N = 64; Me = 19.1 × 5.3 µm; Qe = 3.6.

Thanks a lot.

Interesting species! I assume this is an Allophylaria, and it seems similar to one on Quercus ilex leaves, see my older with that name.

Yes, now I have seen your folder, buth, do you think my ectal excipulum is gelatinized? I do not see that gelatinized, see attached pictures.

Paraphysis reaction in IKI is OK.

Thank you

Surely it is not, you are right. Allophylaria is perhaps not necessarily gelatinized. Regrettably DNA is almost wanting in that genus, and first results indicate close relationship with Calycellina and Mollisina, where also gel and no gel occurs.

Ok, thank you. Another species unidentified.

Best wishes.
