Cistellina-Hyphodiscus on Nemania serpens?

Dear Forum,


Sunday I found an old Nemania serpens with some small cream-coloured apothecia on it.


They had clavate hairs(19-25x6µ) with blunt tuberculate warts. No KOH reaction.


Asci measured 26-43x5.5µ and had croziers. Spores were hyaline and biguttulate(4.3-4.8x2.2µ);


Cistellina stereicola seems to be close but is associated with Stereum instead of Nemania.


Any idea?

Hmm, I can hardly see it, but I believe.

Cistella is not eay, but why not again C. geelmuydenii, like the one of William Slosse

Do you think geelmuydenii is still possible although IKI only gives a mild blue coloration of the upper part of the apical apparatus. I used IKI several times but no hemiamyloidity was seen.

I am not sure. How high was the concentration? Did you try KOH-pretreatment? Or Melzer? Both could clarify if the reaction is enhanced (KOH, after washing add IKI or MLZ) or suppressed (MLZ).

I used both Melzer and Lugol after pretreatment with KOH. In Melzer a had a minimal blue coloration, in Lugol the blue was more pronounced.


I cannot tell you what the concentrations are but both products came from mykoshop.

o.k., sorry for the inconvenience. Not much clearer, probably not only because of the unsharpness.

I must admit I am not really an expert of Cistella, and my identifications are therefore only tentative. For a thorough comparison of available docus and literature I have no time.

In the type of Pezizella roseoflavida which I have restudied I noted IKI light dirty reddish, MLZ-, after KOH MLZ light blue. The hemiamyloid (dirty red) reaction is well visible on a photo collage by Matthias Reul of a sample by Torsten Richter (#7574) in my folder (no KOH-pretreatment shown).
