Stromata on Phragmites
Eduard Osieck,

Does any body recognise these rather large stromata (length up to 0.5 cm, note the scale bars) found on Phragmites stems?
Unfortunately no spores or conidia yet (after one month).
Van Ryckegem (Phragmites PhD) mentions two species with such rather large blackish stroma: Apiospora montagnei and Wettsteinina moniliformis. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any sharp detailed stroma photos of these, so I have no idea whether it is one of these or something else. I have assumed that Lophiostoma arundinaceum has much smaller stromata (although I failed to find any size indications).
Help appreciated!
Eduard

Hi Eduard,
have you considered it to be a dry specimen of Puccinia sp?

Dear Eduard,
it is a pity that it is immature. The stromata remind me of Scirrhia rimosa. Please compare with it. Best, Irmgard

Re : Stromata on Phragmites
Thanks to all for the reactions. I guess Scirrhia rimosa is a very good match. I know Puccinia phragmites from the same site and substrate but it is quite different. Photos of the outside and the inside of Scirrhia rimosa of Peter and on the Internet are very similar to my collection. Strikingly this species was not found during the Phragmites study of Van Ryckegem (in Flanders and SW. Netherlands).
Thanks again for the help, Eduard
