Trichopeziza (?) on Ulmus
Edvin Johannesen, 05-01-2019 14:43
Edvin JohannesenThis one is collected on dead wood of Ulmus glabra. Spores (in Congo Red in water) measure 22-27 x 5-6 microns. No croziers (?). Spores aseptate.  Hairs very bright yellow.  They seem more twisted than straight (in the microscope) and not very heavily incrusted. Is this a Trichopeziza and if so, is there a species which fits?

Re : Trichopeziza (?) on Ulmus
I assume the wood was lying in wet mud, right?

The hairs must be rather narrow, about 50-75 µm long, tapering. The apical ing must react blue in Lugol (finally dirty red when concentrated). Absent croziers is correct.

The apos are much smaller than 1 mm?

And look: the paraphyses are quite narrow an filiform, very unlke Trichopeziza. Also I think the ectal excipulum is not of globulosa.

Amicodisca virella (= brdensis).

Re : Trichopeziza (?) on Ulmus
I have no information about how the wood was lying. I will check if the finder remembers. Yes, the apothecia are very small.

I will check the Lugol reaction and the ectal excipulum.

Thanks a lot!

Re : Trichopeziza (?) on Ulmus
The ascus apical ring is dark blue in Baral's medum. Excipulum is more towards textura prismatica?  I do not see globular cells.

I take it that this is Amicodisca virella, then. First record from Norway :-)

Looks almost a bit reddish, this which is typical.

Well I see isodiametric cells but a good idea is only obtained in a section.
