Miguel Ãngel RibesGood evening

This orange, small (1 mm), not coprophilous, Iodophanus was growing in a herbaceous plant in a garden at La Gomera (Canary Islands). It has a very broad spores for I. carneus, isnt it?

Asci 8-spores, narrowed at apex, without croziers, completly blue in IKI, (226.2) 230.9 - 255.2 (258.9) x (20.7) 21.8 - 28.7 (31.8) µm; N = 29; Me = 243.8 x 26.0 µm.
Spores elipsoidal, slightly ornamented and covered witha a gelationous substance, (15.0) 15.5 - 20.1 (20.4) x (9.9) 10.7 - 13.2 (13.9) µm; Q = (1.3) 1.4 - 1.66 (1.7); N = 43; Me = 18.0 x 11.8 µm ; Qe = 1.5
Paraphysis straight, slightly broad at apex, full of VB at least in the terminal cell, disolved in red colour with CRB+KOH.
Ectal excipulum with textura subglobose-angularis.
Medullar excipulum with textura intricata.
Nonexistent margin

Thank you.

Bonsoir Miguel.

Peut être peux tu t'orienter vers Iodophanus testaceus avec des spores plus largement ellipsoides.

Michel.

Re : Iodophanus carneus? 130213 04
Hi Michel

I have this another collection like I. testaceus, with more clear ornamentation and bigger spores, do you think is it the same?

Spores (17.4) 19.5 - 22.5 (24.0) x (11.1) 11.9 - 13.8 (15.0) µm; Q = (1.5) 1.52 - 1.8 (1.9); N = 54; Me = 20.9 x 12.7 µm ; Qe = 1.6

Thank you.

Je pense que oui, la couleur des apothécies est assez variable dans ce genre.

Michel.

Re : Iodophanus carneus? 130213 04
I have just seen in this paper the authors conclude that using morphological and isozyme analysis they can't differentiate both species, so they are agreee with authours who think I. carneus = I. testaceus.

CINTO, I, D.A. DOKMETZIAN & M.E. RANALLI (2007). Iodophanus carneus and I. testaceus (Ascomycota-Pezizales): independent taxonomic identity or synonymy?. A study of their morphology and isozymes. Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot 42(3-4): 181-187.

Thank you Michel.
