Cyathicula ?
Garcia Susana, 15-01-2015 16:03
Hi all:

I found these yellow apothecia on a herbaceous stem. Have a diameter size of 350-700um.
Can be Cyathicula? I fail to establish the species.
I would appreciate your help.

Thank You.

Susana

Re : Cyathicula ?
Dear Susana

your fungus is something that may not exist ....

The spores look like in C. coronata or Hym. menthae, the  apical ring is of the Calycina type, very unlike those, the apothecia look like C. cyathoidea, and the contents of the paraphyses and the textura oblita support the genus Cyathicula.

I assume you did not see any crystals on the exterior?

No idea :-(

Re : Cyathicula ?
Hola Zotto

No he visto cristales.
Envio fotos del excipulo.
Volveré a mirar un nuevo apotecio.

Re : Cyathicula ?

Saludos,
Susana

Re : Cyathicula ?
Thanks for this completion! I now compared it with C. paludosa, but there the oil drops in the spores are distinctly larger and arranged in one row.

Do you have any idea about the host genus? Was it a wet area?

Re : Cyathicula ?
Hello Zotto:

The sample was collected in the limit of meadow. I think it's grass growing between "zarzas" (Rubus ulmifolius) and "ortigas" (Urtica dioica). It is not a moist area.

The collection are from 12/24/14. The 26/12/14 I watched a apothecium at microscope, and the spores that I observed, had another gútulate pattern, perhaps more like C. paludosa. I attach annotations and a photo I did.
The previous photos were from yesterday and today.

Saludos

Re : Cyathicula ?
Well, this looks to me like secondary. When using guttules as a taxonomic character, you need living asci, otherwise you are not sure. Your previous photos convinced me that the spores are in optimum state. Those here are probably influenced by prolongued stay in a preparation or dryness. Then LBs easily fuse.
