greenish-yellow Ascomyceto
Joaquin Martin, 25-11-2014 14:50
Hola

Ascomyceto encontrado en madera descortezada de quercus rubra.
He mirado por Mollisias , Cistellas etc... por el tipo de esporas, pero no llego a nada.
Alguna idea. Gracias.

Hi

Ascomyceto found in quercus rubra debarked wood.
I've looked for Mollisias, Cistellas etc... by the type of spores, but do not get anything.
Any idea. Thank you.

Re : greenish-yellow Ascomyceto
Hi Joaquin

this must be Chlorosplenium chlora.

Splendid fungus, reminiscent of Mollisia but probably not closely related.

Please keep the material in dry state. It should be sequenced to find out its family relationship.

Oh, you have the possibility? Which gene region?

Tell me also please, did your fungus show a yellow KOH.reaction? I am not sure from your photo. I mean: was the medium stained yellow? And is the origin of that stain a solubility of the yellow ectal excipulum, or a reaction of the colourless VBs inside the paraphyses?

Re : greenish-yellow Ascomyceto
Hi

The yellowish color around the apotecio is due to the solubility of the ectal excipulo in KOH. The reaction is instant and rather weak.
With regard to the other issue Ibai can do it for us, we can do sequence the LSU for a start.
Best regards. Joaquin
