Hyprocrea on Larix needles
Eduard Osieck, 16-09-2014 21:28
This white-spored Hypocrea was found on an unusual substrate: Larix needles. Dried ascomata (up to 1,2 mm in diameter) are pale brownish yellow, fresh more yellowish. Spores are dimorphic, distal typically wedge-shaped (c. 4,5-6 x 4 mu), proximal more oblong-ellipsoid and somewhat less wide. KOH reaction ostiolar dots positive. Part of the ascomata are seated on a white base.

Could it be Hypocrea foliicola which was described only recently? This species is known from  deciduous leaves. Could coniferous needles be considered a similar substrate?
The original description includes also ascomata "often elevated on a compact whitish sterile mycelial base" (Jaklitsch 2012), so that would match nicely.
